ABSTRACT

The nation’s border region is an inseparable part of the history of a nation, as the struggle history of a nation to be acknowledged its existence. Therefore, a history of border regions cannot be separated from the history of the birth (rise) or the end (fall) of a nation. Indonesia as an archipelago is certainly interested in the area of ​​the nation border. The verification territory of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) which is wide and has the land and sea borders with several countries should be supported with data and facts (records) history of the border region as part of the Indonesia’s history.

The border region’s records of Indonesia is one of the state records to be maintained exclusively by the the nation agency and local government agencies along with the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI) for the interest of the state, government, public services, and welfare. The main thing that held the border region’s archives of Indonesia is the archives records which have evidence value of history or the history of Indonesia over the sovereignty of the state, defense and security, socio-economic, and governance.

The obligation to manage border region records by the nation agency and local government agencies through the filing, reporting, and submission of an authentic copy of the original manuscript archives to ANRI as mandated in Article 43 paragraph (1), (20), and (3) of Law Number 43/2009, on Archives. It has been running about 2 (two) years since the Law is imposed. However, until now there has been no full study that addresses this issue.

This study attempts to find out the management of state border region’s records due to the protection and redemption of maintained records in the nation agency and local governments’environment. The study was categorized as a qualitative research with a descriptive formulation and document study. This study sets out with grand tour research questions, namely "How is the management of nation border region’s records due to the protection and redemption of maintained records in the nation agency and local governments’environment?" .
